Hero 4 HeartKids: Join The Fight Against Childhood Heart Disease

Blogs, News

HeartKids is happy to announce that Hero 4 HeartKids is returning for its ninth year this June. Since its inception in 2014, the long-running initiative has continued to make great strides in supporting Australians and families affected by congenital heart disease (CHD). In 2023, our goal is to increase access to our support services and programs across Australia, particularly in our more remote communities. We’re calling upon workplaces, schools, and the wider community to dress up as your favourite superheroes and come support heart kids around Australia.

What We’re Fundraising For

Every day in Australia, eight children are born with a heart defect. That means one family every three hours will have their lives changed in a heartbeat. Four lives are tragically lost every week. CHD is the leading cause of death in our country for babies under the age of one. That’s why, this June, we’re hoping to raise money for the real heroes, the children and families who are impacted by congenital or childhood-acquired heart disease.

As the only organisation in Australia solely focused on childhood heart disease, we continue to rely on financial support from businesses and our broader community to deliver much-needed assistance. This includes:

  • In-hospital and family support programs.
  • Camps for children and young people living with CHD.
  • Education & peer support programs to help families navigate the lifelong journey of the disease.

How You Can Get Involved

On June 16th, we encourage you to gather your friends, family, and colleagues to dress up as your favourite heroes for the day and raise funds. There is a variety of ways that you can join in and fundraise for Hero 4 HeartKids. Here’s a quick guide to get started:

  1. Think of a fundraising idea: Choose an idea that suits you. Whether it’s through a morning tea, gold coin donation drive or a work team-building activity, we’ve made it super easy to participate.
  2. Think about fundraising as a group: Having a group or team to provide support will make the journey easier and help keep you motivated. You can register as a team or create one later.
  3. Register & create your fundraising page: Once you’ve got your idea sorted, it’s time to create your fundraiser.
  4. Set ambitious yet attainable goals: You’ll be surprised by the impact that you can have once you get started.

And if you’re still not sure about dressing up, don’t worry! You can always challenge yourself to finish a fitness goal during the entirety of June. This can be as simple as walking 8,000 steps per day for the eight babies born every day with CHD or performing 400 sit-ups every day in honour of the four lives lost every week to CHD. We believe that anyone can be a hero for heart kids.

Join In & Be A Hero For HeartKids

The team at HeartKids is extremely grateful for the support that we have received these past nine years. From our generous sponsors to our ever-growing community, every single donation has made a real difference in the lives of those children and families that have been affected by heart disease. Whether you’re a first-timer or returning participant, it’s time to embrace your inner superhero and join the fight against CHD.
