Children with Childhood-onset Heart Disease (CoHD) can face developmental delays, especially those who undergo surgery before their first birthday. These delays may go unnoticed until formal schooling begins. To help children’s development, a HeartKids Occupational Therapist created the Better Beginnings program.
The program provides early assessment and intervention to improve outcomes. Parents learn valuable strategies and interventions that fit into their daily routines, helping children learn through play. The program also offers additional support if needed.
In addition to personalised strategies, Better Beginnings fosters a feeling of community by connecting families with similarly aged children on similar journeys. Together, families can share experiences, offer mutual support, and nurture their children’s development.
With Better Beginnings, parents can feel empowered, knowing they are giving their child the best possible start for a brighter future.
